Carving the Decorative Lifesize Floating Decoy - A Complete 12 Month Course


Phases I, II ,III & IV-  Life-size Decorative Floating  Decoy - The Complete 12 Course.

The species we will be carving in this section is the Lesser Scaup drake.  As a diver, it has simplicity of form and basic characteristics making it a good subject for the developing carver

The carving and painting will be covered from start to finish as one continuous 52 week course divided into four separate phases of 12 weeks that you can space out as your schedule permits.  All 4 phases of the course must be taken in order.  Each two hour session is presented weekly.

Classes of 2 – 4 students learn together at a comfortable pace in a live, virtual shop, taught live and demonstrated live from our camera and recording setup. Each session contains, demos, reviews and consultation while you action work under my guidance in each session. Also during each session classmates can talk to each other, share information about their projects and carving techniques. Courses and classes are archived for review.  

 In this course you will be provided with the tupelo wood blank cutout with two heads from adapted patterns and copies of the two patterns used.  The kit will also include a Joe Ferebee Study bill, glass eyes and links to public domain images and access to our reference gallery you may use.

The course presentation and video sessions will be available for you to access for 30 days after the scheduled completion date.

Current Live Online Course Schedule:

There will be a 2 hour session held weekly in Google+  Hangouts for each course listed below.  Sometimes makeup classes or consults may be held Skype.

Each session is a short review of the previous sessions homework, what we are covering today with demos by the instructor and having the student do certain tasks in their own work area.   

Live instruction is given on each course's schedule.  Important session recordings will be be available the student's private password protected Archive for personal use for a period of 1 yr.  after the course ending date. PowerPoint presentations provided for download as each section begins.

Sundays - 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Carving a Decorative Floating Decoy - (Paid by the course - $675.00)


Mondays - 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Novice/Intermeditate - Weekly Classes - (Paid by $85.00/month)

Mondays - 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Advanced - Weekly Classes - (Paid by $85.00/month)


Tuesdays - 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Basic Beginners - Weekly Classes - (Paid by $85.00/month)


Wednesdays - 12;00 pm - 2:00 pm - Novice/Intermeditate - Weekly Classes - (Paid by $85.00/month)

Wednesdays - 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Carving the Working Decoy - (Paid by the 12 week course. - $350.00)


Thursdays - Carving a Decorative Floating Decoy - (Paid by the course - $625.00)


Fridays - 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Weekly Classes - (Paid by $85.00/month).

Fridays - 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Carving the Hunting Decoy - (Paid by the 12 week course. - $350.00)


As needed - Free makeup classes for each student in case of necessary absence – (Only one scheduled 1.5 hr. class per month per course or class.)

Completion Date:  is projected to be 1 year later (52 weekly sessions) but holidays and vacations may extend the duration of the course. 
Should a student have to miss a session, there will be videos available for review.
Appointments will also be taken for an absent student make up a missed class or to ask questions.
Advanced notice to the instuctor if one has to miss a class.
